what the shadows say [discussion of rape culture; written for
journal_journey]
And what the shadows say is peace: the sun
does not beat down upon you here, does not
dehydrate you. They grow: the day is done.
And what the shadows say is calm: you've naught
to fear from strangers who ought to be friends,
there's no cause for concern; they live by day
and you by night. The shadows grow: day ends.
And what the shadows say is life: they say
to fear the night, the men who walk by night,
but it's our time to walk as well, and we
shall walk as though we're safe as in the light.
They say to fear the night to cow us; we,
we shall not be afraid of what they say
of shadows, or of what the shadows say.
