Exposure

Thank you, kind coworker,
for your concern
for my health
when you see me
taking my inhaler
in public.

It would ring
more sincere
if you were trying
to think of a way
to balance
your smoker coworkers'
want for their high
with my own
need to breathe.

I'm okay.
I'm fine.
I breathe still.
And yet:
too many smokers,
not enough air.
