Perhaps I learned too well:

I want to be
queer
genderqueer
feminist
activist.
I want to learn
what holds us back
and how to use
its weight against it
to defeat it
without violence.

You say
nothing holds us back

You say
women's studies is
hardly a field of study
certainly not worth studying
and you would say
(should I dare to mention
what else I study)
that
queer studies
transgender studies
are not
fields of study
not at all.

one of these things is a lie

and I do not want to hurt you

but I do not know how
to use the weight of your disapproval
against you
to defeat you without hurting you.
